Our Reading the Mystics series will resume for 2022 with four sessions before the beginning of Lent. Our first session will be on Wed, Jan 12, at 7:00 pm in Rm. 101. Jim Curry will facilitate the session on Desert Mysticism: Evagrius Ponticus and St. John Cassian.
The Desert Fathers and Mothers of 4th Century Egypt were the unofficial founders of the Christian monastic movement. Their deeply spiritual approach to living life as a Christian led to a distinct form of mysticism that has influenced mystical theology right up to present times. The two theologians most responsible for preserving and refining the mystical heritage of the desert were Evagrius Ponticus (d. 399 A.D.) and St. John Cassian (d. 436). Come join us on the 12th as we explore the mystical treasures of the Egyptian desert and their application to 21st Century Christian life.
