New Adult Education Series: The Christian Mystical Tradition

The Christian Mystical Tradition is often misunderstood. It has its roots in Sacred Scripture; its contributors include both learned clergy and theologians and simple lay people with great spiritual gifts.  Our new series on Christian mysticism will begin with three sessions on Wed, Apr 22, at 6:00 pm in Rm. 101.

Topics will include:

April 22:  Who are the Christian Mystics and Why we Should Read Them?

April 29:  How to Read the Mystics and Develop a Sense of the Mystical

May 6:  An Exercise: Reading the Gospel of John with an Eye for Mystery

And then, beginning in August, we will explore the writings of one mystic per month, including some well known examples like Teresa of Avila and Bonaventure, and some lesser known mystics like Hildegard of Bingen and Gregory Narek. The plan is to continue the series monthly for about a year, longer if there is sufficient interest. Watch the Sunday Bulletin for further details. The opening three sessions will be facilitated by Jim Curry, RCIA coordinator at HNJ. Monthly sessions will be led be a variety of parish catechists, staff and volunteers.
