From:   Bishop John Noonan

Re:       Re-opening our Churches

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Grace and Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you this holy season of Easter.

Through consultation with the Florida Conference of Bishops, we have decided to make the necessary steps to begin opening our parish communities. Please note: the dispensation from the Sunday Mass obligation will continue until further notice to safeguard the most vulnerable of our parishioners.

Please see the following link to my video and information shared about the step-by-step opportunities for each of our parishes: https://www.orlandodiocese.org/bishop-noonans-reopening-message/

The following only applies to parish churches.  It does not include San Pedro Spiritual Development Center or the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe.  Online Masses being shown via live-stream will continue throughout the month of May.

  • Monday, May 11

Parish churches may open to allow people to come in and pray and participate in the Sacrament of Penance.  Appropriate social distancing will be required.  People may be denied entrance upon arrival or asked to leave the church if the numbers become greater than social distancing would allow.  Chapels and Adoration Chapels will not be open.

No public Sunday Mass at any parish will be celebrated.

  • Monday, May 18 – Friday, May 29

Daily Mass will be celebrated and will be open to parishioners.  Appropriate social distancing will be required.  People may be denied entrance upon arrival or asked to leave the church if the numbers become greater than social distancing would allow.  Chapels and Adoration Chapels will not be open.

No public Sunday Mass at any parish will be celebrated.

  • Sunday, May 30-31 The Feast of Pentecost

Sunday Mass will be celebrated at parishes.  Mass schedules may change to accommodate appropriate social distancing.  Chapels and Adoration Chapels will not be open.

May we testify to the Gospel that those whom we serve will come to know and love God.
Sincerely in Christ,

+Most Reverend John Noonan, Bishop of the Diocese of Orlando
