Christian Marriage: Theology, Spirituality and History
Please join us on Wed, Sep 11, 18 & 25, at 6:30 pm in Rm. 101 as Jim Curry explores Christian Marriage: Theology, Spirituality and History.
- Session 1: Marriage in Christ: Marriage as a Sacrament - The History and Theology of Matrimony Marriage as an institution pre-dates the Christian era and the institution of the Church’s sacramental system. This first week’s session examines the history of the sacrament of Matrimony and the Catholic theology of marriage.
- Session 2: Marriage to Christ: Marriage as a Metaphor - Christ the Bridegroom The scriptural images of Yahweh as the husband of His chosen people and of Christ as the bridegroom of the Church use the marital relationship to explain the loving relationship of God and humans. This metaphor has historically also been used in explaining religious life and mystical experiences.
- Session 3: Marriage for Christ: Marriage as a Means to Salvation Our Married Saints Our final session examines Christian marriage as a path to sainthood. Throughout the ages, the Church has recognized some married persons as saints. In recent years, as the Church has realized te important role of the family in catechesis and the transmission of the Catholic faith, an increasing emphasis has been placed on identifying married couples who have found the path to salvation within the graces of Matrimony.
"Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate." Mt 19:6
New Scripture Study! The Book of Amos

Though not well known by most Catholics it is often found quoted in the New Testament. Scholars refer to Amos, a blue collar worker, as the first of the Writer Prophets. Our belief as Catholics in Social Justice, properly understood, is found in this amazing book.
