UPDATE APRIL 22, 2008

In the next few months there is going to be a Haitian High School Basketball Team wearing the uniform of the Satellite Beach Scorpions. The team just donated 12 almost new uniforms to the Haiti Mission. All we must do is get them to Haiti!

Mary Ann  and Jim are seeing many children on the streets of Haiti eating the dirt cookies. It's all their families can afford!

We now have about 10 wedding gowns to take to Haiti. Mary Ann plans to expand the program to also include brides from both Fr. Petit ( Chandelle, Haiti) and Fr. Anis Parishes.

So close to our shores and yet no one seems to recognize that the island of Haiti exists.  It is only 1-1/2 hour by plane to get to Haiti and yet little focus is given to

this island of people who are starving. I have purchased wooden bells in Haiti – written on the bells is the following: “No one hears the Cry of the Poor or the Sound of a Wooden Bell”.  The bell does not make a sound and it seems to me that we do not hear the cry of the poor from this country so close to our shores.

The people of Haiti took to the streets last week to make a sound because they are hungry.  They carried their empty plates and marched in protest for the rising cost of rice.  It has doubled in price and they cannot feed their children!

In Haiti we see many of the children eating the dirt patties that they sell on the street, with a little salt and margarine in them.  How long must they wait until someone hears the cry of the poor?

I am afraid that many of us are like the Rich Man in the Bible who never saw Lazarus right at his door!  ( Luke 16:19-31)

Haiti is Lazarus!

MARY ANN & JIM LOAFMAN TO HAITI

The walls and roof of the first St Michel School building at Chandelle is almost complete. Doors, children's school benches and painting is needed. The plaque below acknowleging the generosity of Holy Name of Jesus of Indialantic and Ascension Parish of Melbourne will be afixed to the new school.

ST. MICHEL PARISH BRIDES DO NOT HAVE  WEDDING GOWNS!

Spring is in-the- air at our adopted parish of St Michel The Archangel at Morne a Chandelle, Haiti. The Pastor, Fr Petit, has 21 couples scheduled to be married.  Unfortunately, the brides of St. Michel Parish do not have money  for wedding gowns.  Fr. Petit  has requested our help to donate pre-worn wedding gowns so he can establish a "wedding gown loan closet"  in the rectory for future parish brides.   Please think of the joy your retired wedding gown can bring to a poor bride in Haiti. What a blessing it is to know that your gown can again create joy by helping to unite  a loving Haitian couple.  Contact Cathy Manese at  626 3824

Please consider the children of St. Michel by sending a check to the Haiti Mission at the Holy Name of Jesus Church, 3050 N. Hwy A1A, Indialantic, FL 32903. Any questions Bob Quinn, 321 777 6503, bobq25@aol.com. or Mary Ann Loafman 321 724 9860.
